SteamWorld Dig 2, the much anticipated sequel to the acclaimed hit of the same title, has players adventuring in the underground world as they fight, mine, craft, and explore a dangerous world. SteamWorld Dig 2 has you playing as Dorothy, a steam powered robot, with an array of abilities designed to help you dig, fight, and explore however you see fit. A combination of crafting and platforming is required in order to explore every inch of the vast underground world. This time around your world is not procedurally generated, but instead has delicately designed areas to explore. Not only is there an expansive world to explore, but included in this world are creative dungeons to test your wit and skill. Your mastery of combat and platforming will be rewarded with valuable loot hidden inside these dungeons. This loot can consist of new items, cogs, and artifacts.
In SteamWorld Dig 2 you join Dorothy as she searches for Rusty, the protagonist from the first game. This story connects with events from the first game as well as events from other SteamWorld titles. Dorothy learns of Rusty's disappearance and moves to the town "El Machino" to find him. This search will lead to exploring the underground mines nearby. What lies ahead is a story full of exploration, interesting characters, and excitement.

SteamWorld Dig 2 also contains many elements of and RPG. Everything you do can be leveled up to increase your abilities and equipment inventory. So as you mine, fight, and explore you will gain experience to help you perform better. There are even items that can be equipped to increase your experience gain based on your play style. You can also collect cogs which allow you to level up perks to better increase your efficiency. No matter what stage you're at in the game you always feel like you're improving.
SteamWorld Dig 2 will have you exploring all over the place, leveling up your abilities, and just enjoying your time in the underground. You can't stay down there forever though as you will need to resurface in order to sell goods and replenish your health. SteamWorld Dig 2 requires a great sense for survival in order to last long. Elements of most survival games can be found here such as managing your backpack inventory, health levels, returning to town, and water. You will have to manage your time wisely if you hope to survive.
